![]() Bring a Book Instead of a Card is becoming very popular at baby showers everywhere. It serves as a great way to help the expectant parents build a library of fun and educational books that baby will enjoy in the years to come. But why not take this a step further and make those wonderful stories the theme for the party? With so many cute tales to choose from, the possibilities are endless. So endless that there's no way for me to include them all so I'll just give you some basic inspiration. Think Dr. Seuss, the Velveteen Rabbit, Goodnight Moon, Alice in Wonderland or Chica Chica Boom Boom for starters. Any of these stories should give you a blast of creative inspiration. In fact you can use any favorite childrens book for your baby shower inspiration. It would be nice if you could find out the parent's childhood favorites and go from there. Don't Forget The Book Plates One of the nicest gestures at a Book Baby Shower is providing book plates that everyone can sign so that the parents will always remember who gave each book. You can purchase matching invites and book plates and send them out to each intended guest or have the book plates ready to be filled out at the shower. You'll find tons of different designs to choose from by visiting: Easy Homemade Garland I found some amazing ideas at MarthaStewart.com including an adorable and easy to create garland that you can hang as a decoration over the buffet table or virtually anywhere you want. I fell in love with this because it's not only super cute and you can make it any colors you choose but it's also totally affordable too. Depending on how fancy you want to make it, all you really need is some string, construction paper and some printed words on paper. Well... you'll need some double sided tape and glue too. Simple instructions would be to cut the construction paper, and printed word paper into rectangles, any size you'd like and then to put one piece of printed word paper on top of a piece of construction paper and fold it to look like a book. Repeat as many times as you'd like and then attach these mini-books to the string and hang. You'll find the complete step-by-step instructions HERE Of course, she's got other great ideas for this theme too. Visit the following link to see them all. Wow Them With A Great Cake Invest in a great storybook inspired cake. Then, let it do double duty as your buffet centerpiece. If you're experienced in cake decorating, you won't need to spend as much but if you're not, there's lots of great places to find pre-printed fondant that can be used as a beautiful cake topper for your home baked creation. Try Etsy.com. I've found some really great stuff there. Or look into bakeries in your area that specialize in creative cakes. Get Crafty Of course to get the look just right, you'll need to make much of the decor yourself. But just think of the look on everyone's face when they walk in. If you're creative, you can affordably make many of the decorations your self. The best place I've found for ideas is Pinterest. A search for Book Baby Shower Ideas will provide hundreds of amazing things for you to make or buy. Share your best book baby shower theme ideas here in the comments. We'd love to hear from you.

The History of Baby Showers
Although the term baby shower is a fairly modern concept, the tradition of welcoming baby and the rite of a woman's transition into motherhood is
something that has been celebrated throughout history. Learn more here: The History of Bridal Showers
Did you know that the custom of throwing a bridal shower dates back to the time when dowries were popular? Friends of the woman to be wed began giving what is now known as a bridal shower to compensate women who came from poor families who couldn't afford a proper dowry, or for a woman whose father didn't approve of the marriage and refused to pay.
